Draft Details

The NADCL Season 9 Draft allows franchise team owners to build competitive rosters for the Main Event, held from July 15th to July 30th, 2025. On July 11th, 2025, owners bid on players from the Players Combine (July 7th–9th, 2025) using a 600-gold budget. The draft follows a Snake Auction format, with nomination order determined by each team’s supporter fan count on Discord.

Draft Details

The draft occurs on July 11th, 2025, via the NADCL Discord server at https://discord.gg/ZFJSngw6ZC. Each of the eight franchise team owners receives 600 gold to bid on players to form a five-player roster. Players must have played at least 5 inhouse matches during the Combine to be eligible. Bidding starts at the Player Gold Value, based on performance metrics from their top eight won matches in the Combine. Mutual agreement between player and owner is required for all selections.

Draft Phases

The draft is conducted in a Snake Auction format with multiple rounds, prioritizing strategic nominations and bidding.

  1. Round 1 (Bundle Nominations): Team owners nominate a bundle of two players (core + support). Players who are also team owners must bundle themselves with another player and pay a 20% tariff on their bundle’s suggested gold value. The nomination order is determined by the number of supporter fans per team on Discord, with tiebreakers resolved by: (1) higher average Combine performance of pre-drafted players, (2) random draw.
  2. Round 2 and Beyond (Individual Players): Owners nominate one player per round, starting with a minimum bid of 1 gold. Owners must retain at least 1 gold per remaining roster slot to continue nominating players, ensuring they cannot spend all their gold before completing their five-player roster. The nomination order follows the Snake Auction format, reversing each round, with tiebreakers as in Round 1.

Additional Rules

  • Trading Window: Open from July 12th to July 13th, 2025. Owners may trade at most one player, with the new player valued at their suggested gold value. The total roster value must remain below 600 gold. Rosters are locked after July 13th.
  • Stand-Ins: Undrafted Combine players may serve as stand-ins, subject to NADCL admin approval. Each stand-in must have a suggested gold value lower than or equal to the player they replace and is locked to one team for the tournament. A maximum of 2 stand-ins are allowed per series, with each substitution evaluated independently based on the replaced player’s gold value.
  • Code of Conduct: Owners must follow NADCL’s fair play rules, including respectful behavior during the draft and tournament. Violations may lead to disqualification. Full details at nadcl.us.

Instructions for Owners

  1. Scout players during the Players Combine (July 7th–9th, 2025) to evaluate performance metrics.
  2. Prepare bundle nominations (core + support) for Round 1, ensuring compliance with the 20% tariff if you are a player-owner.
  3. Join the draft on July 11th, 2025, via the NADCL Discord server at https://discord.gg/ZFJSngw6ZC.
  4. Manage your 600-gold budget strategically, retaining at least 1 gold per remaining roster slot for nominations.
  5. Finalize trades during the trading window (July 12th–13th, 2025), ensuring the roster value stays below 600 gold.
Player Registration & Combine

Participation in the North American Dota Challengers League (NADCL) Season 9 Players Combine, held from July 7th to July 9th, 2025, is free. Players must complete registration and meet specific requirements to be eligible for the draft, ensuring they are prepared for the competitive environment of North America’s premier Dota 2 semi-pro tournament.

Registration Requirements

To Participate in the Players Combine

To Be Eligible for the Draft

  • Compete in at least 3 IHL tournaments during the Players Combine or play a total of 5 matches.
  • Have a working webcam for gameplay transparency during the Main Event (required post-draft).

Opt-Out Options

Players may opt for waivers to bypass certain requirements, subject to specific conditions. Fees support tournament operations and maintain high-quality production for player cards and promotional materials.

  • Portrait Photo Opt-Out Fee: $10 to opt out of submitting a portrait photo. This fee covers administrative costs and compensates for reduced promotional value, as photos enhance player cards and marketing materials critical to NADCL S9’s production quality. Players who opt out will not have their image used in any tournament materials.
  • Players Combine Opt-Out Fee: $50 to bypass the 3 IHL tournaments or 5-match requirement. Players who pay this fee are eligible for the draft but cannot serve as stand-ins for the Main Event.

Steps

  1. Submit the registration form, including a portrait photo unless opting for the $10 waiver.
  2. Join the NADCL Discord server at discord.gg/ZFJSngw6ZC and enable notifications for match coordination and updates.
  3. Compete in the Players Combine (July 7th–9th, 2025), using a microphone, to achieve draft eligibility (3 IHL tournaments or 5 matches) unless opting for the $50 waiver.
  4. Post-draft, provide a webcam for Main Event matches if selected.

Notes

  • Stand-Ins: Undrafted players who meet Combine participation requirements may serve as stand-ins, subject to admin approval, unless they paid the $50 Combine fee waiver.
  • Tax Disclaimer: Prizes ≥$600 (e.g., Main Event winnings) require a Form W-9 (U.S. residents) or Form W-8BEN (international players) to avoid 24% or 30% withholding, respectively. Winners will receive a Form 1099-MISC for prizes ≥$600. Report prizes as income; Minnesota tax (5.35%–9.85%) may apply.
  • Code of Conduct: Adhere to NADCL’s fair play rules, including respectful behavior. Violations may result in disqualification. Full details at nadcl.us.
